John Kane was just your average video poker player until the day he discovered a glitch in the Game King video poker machine. The glitch would allow the player to change his wager amount ‘after’ he knew the outcome of the hand. As in, he would often play one cent at a time until such time that he had a big winning hand, at which time he would up it to the maximum of $10. When he waited until he won the jackpot before he did this, he pocketed a cool $10,000 each time.
Along with his friend Andre Nestor he was in the winning streak to end all winning streaks. They were eventually arrested but walked free after prosecutors failed to justify charges of hacking or conspiracy against them. Their attorney was quick to point out that all they did was press buttons they were legally able to press.
